A WORD ON THE NEW MAP SYSTEM

The new map system is based on hexes, as before. Each hex is a province and is divided into 6 districts. Each district has two parishes. Each parish has a characteristic terrain which is hilly, wooded or farmland.

At the centre lies the provincial capital city which is surrounded by an adjacent parish which is star-shaped. Cities are typical late sixteenth century Vauban-style fortress-towns.

Each nation gets a single major river - Danube or Rhine-sized, which rises on its teritory and flows into the Cold Sea.

Onto the basic province terrain map there is a road net which is superimposed. All junctions represent a market town. Between each market town is a day's march for infantry. Market towns have medieval style town walls.

I made six terrain maps and six road nets which are compatible. Rolling dice decided which two were set together to make a province map.

FINDING SKOVKAPPEL IN THE NEW MAPS

The new map system means I have to relocate Skovkapellet. It can be seen here that it lies 5 days march away in the south west of Kurusaare Province in the District of Nonesuchbad. Outside the town of Nonesuchbad, in the woods, along a dirt road, can be found the Skovkappel - 'The Chapel In theWoods..

 DON'T FALL OFF YOUR CHAIR!

There is some movement again. Map-making is proceeding and a new workshop being built to allow army painting and a new wargames table.

Example map of Teutania : brown - hills, green - woods, yellow - farmland. Star is provincial capital.

The road net is a separate layer from the ground type so I can make 36 different hexes, combined with different layouts this is plenty of variation. Each nation gets one major river draining to the Cold Sea.

There is a town at each road junction or border crossing.

Between each town is one day's march for foot soldiers.

The area around the province capital is traversed in one day to enter another road.
