Cardboard Crazy

Illustreret Familie-Journal is a Danish institution. It has been published since 1877. I have some old copies from 1918.
A feature of each issue was the 'klippe ark' a cut-out model or toy. Being a bit hooked on paper models (see my other blogs) I had the idea to use these for battlefield scenery to be in  keeping with the 40mm 'toy' soldiers.paint jobs
This example is a picturesque 'Woodland Chapel'. The  plan is to scan it, re-scale it to 40mm and then print and assemble. Simple !
After scanning and a lot of laying-out in MSPaint. I get down to cut-and-paste...
Finally finished! Skovkapellet complete with a garrison. Roof is removeable.

Strange to think that any children who made the original have grown-up and died long since.
High Street in Schreiberheim.
Next project could be 'The Swamp Castle', 'The Old Town Gateway', 'The Old Watermill' or who knows..?

HOUSES

A larger town house, again modified from Schreiber.

Print this as big as possible on an A4 sheet and it is about the right size. Needs chimney stacks.

HOUSES

Schreiber houses are great but 1/87.
I have modified some to make simple 40mm houses.
I make 2 sides and half the roof, print 2 copies and build the house.
Print at about 90% of file size : check with a test print to make door 40mm high.
Paste the paper copy to card or print on card.
The building needs stifffeners or use thick board/card.
Make a ruin which has the same base area and the house can slot over this.

BUILDINGS

Following basic principle of keeping things simple and toy-soldier-like instead of going for the dolls-house school of super scale realism, I have decided on card for all buildings.

The German company Schreiber make beautiful card kits for old fashioned European buildings that suit c.1700 very well.

Received the first today - 1/87 and 1/90 scale. I will scan and print to double size which should suit 40mm.
